On Saturday, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham strongly condemned the ISIL’s second attack on the Syrian city of Ain al-Arab in one of the militants’ worst massacres in Syria that killed at least 170 people, including women and children.
Afkham extended her deepest sympathy to Ain al-Arab citizens and all victims of terrorism in Syria, stressing the need for unity and solidarity among all people in the war-torn country in the fight against Takfiri terrorism.
The Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman lashed out at those countries that continued providing financial, military and intelligence support to the terrorists, saying “the recent developments and ISIL’s newly-committed crimes proved once again that an effective fight against terrorism requires the countries to cease employing terrorism as a tool to reach their political objectives.”
Afkham further added that a fundamental countermeasure against this threatening phenomenon to the peace and stability of the region and the world demands a serious resolution on the part of various players in the region as well as the international community.
The ISIL terrorist group launched assaults Thursday in northern Syria, dealing a blow to Syrian Kurdish YPG forces after their recent battlefield victories against the militant group.
Dozens of ISIL terrorists entered the Syrian border town of Kobani at dawn, detonating car bombs before fanning out across the city in a 24-hour rampage that killed at least 170 civilians and at least 16 Kurdish fighters.
The attack came five months after ISIL militants were driven out of of Kobani by Kurdish forces.
